reached its historical maximum number of patients on the waiting list in 2021

706,740 people

and exceeding the 704,997 people registered in December 2019, according to the report on the situation of the surgical waiting list in the National Health System ( SNS), dated December 30, 2021, published by the Ministry of Health.

Regarding the average waiting time to undergo an intervention,

the national average was 123 days

, which is 32 days less compared to December 2020, although on that date there were 56,861 fewer people on the waiting list.

By autonomous communities,

Catalonia leads the ranking with 154,799 people waiting for an intervention

, followed by Andalusia (122,959), Madrid (71,956), Valencian Community (50,831), Galicia (43,194), Castilla y León (42,107), Canary Islands ( 42,107), Aragon (25,887), Murcia (24,892), Extremadura (24,245), the Basque Country (21,707) and Asturias (20,115).

On the contrary, where there are fewer patients on these lists is in Melilla (188), Ceuta (865), Navarra (6,531), La Rioja (6,941), Cantabria (13,453) and the Balearic Islands (14,412).

Regarding the average waiting time by community,

Aragón is where more days are expected to be intervened (183 days)

, followed by Catalonia (156), Cantabria (146), Extremadura (145), Canarias (144), Castilla y León ( 144), Balearic Islands (134), Andalusia (128), Ceuta (126), Castilla-La Mancha (113), Valencian Community (100), Asturias (95), La Rioja (95), Murcia (94), Navarra ( 82), Galicia (77), Madrid (73), the Basque Country (71) and Melilla (40).
