Died at 8:32 on May 2 in Beijing at the age of 100.

  Xie Chensheng was born in July 1922, started working in September 1949, and joined the War of Resistance against America and Aid Korea in October 1950, as a missionary officer of a certain department of the Chinese People's Volunteers.

Since 1953, he has been the business secretary and office secretary of the Cultural Relics Department of the Cultural Relics Bureau.

In 1961, the "Interim Regulations on the Protection and Management of Cultural Relics" and "Instructions on Further Strengthening the Protection and Management of Cultural Relics" were drafted.

In 1963, he participated in the drafting of the Interim Measures for the Protection and Management of Cultural Relics Protection Units and the Interim Measures for the Renovation of Revolutionary Memorial Buildings, Historical Memorial Buildings, Ancient Buildings, and Grotto Temples.

In 1967, drafted documents related to the protection of cultural relics and books.

Since 1972, Xie Chensheng has successively served as cadre, deputy director and director of the Research Office of the Cultural Relics Bureau, and participated in the drafting and revision of the first cultural law of the People's Republic of China, the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Cultural Relics. The cultural relics work policy of "protection first, rescue first, rational utilization, and strengthening management" has been written into the law, and has made outstanding contributions to cultural relics regulations, policies, and theoretical research.

  In the 1980s, Xie Chensheng served as the director of the editorial committee of the cultural relics volume of the Chinese Encyclopedia, wrote a comprehensive overview of the cultural relics volume, put forward the definition of "cultural relics", and made important contributions to the construction of cultural relics with Chinese characteristics.

In 1983, he participated in the national ancient calligraphy and painting appraisal expert group, which took eight years to complete the precious calligraphy and painting appraisal work.

In 1987, he was responsible for drafting the State Council's "Notice on Further Strengthening Cultural Relics Work".

  After retiring in 1994, Xie Chensheng paid close attention to the work of cultural relics at the grassroots level, regardless of his advanced age and infirmity, and always cared about the development of cultural relics.

In 2005, he participated in the drafting of the State Council's "Notice on Strengthening Cultural Heritage Protection" and actively advocated the establishment of China's "Cultural Heritage Day".

He called for the protection of Beijing's famous historical and cultural city, which attracted the attention of the central government, and played an important role in the promulgation of the "Regulations on the Protection of Historic and Cultural Cities, Towns and Villages" in 2008 and strengthening the protection of historical and cultural cities.

  Xie Chensheng said many times before his death, "Looking back on my career in cultural relics for more than 70 years, I have always believed that protecting cultural relics is protecting the country." There is a scene that often happened to him. Every time Xie Chensheng chatted, he recalled hearing about it when he fought against the United States and aided Korea. The song, "What do I defend? Defend my hometown, defend the old pine tree in front of my hometown, call it a thousand years of green to everlasting youth."
