In Garches (Hauts-de-Seine), rue Marquis de Morès and place Charles Devos will be renamed.

The municipality has launched a citizen consultation on its website to choose which personalities will give their names to the two places.

Eight women are in the running, indicates Actu Hauts-de-Seine.

The city wanted to see two of them replace anti-Semitic men.

A first for the community

No artery of Garches bears a woman's name for the moment.

Internet users can make their selection until May 31.

They must choose between Simone Veil, Camille Claudel, Marie Curie, Lucie Aubrac, Blanche de Castille, Colette, George Sand and Marie Laurencin.

The biographies of these eight personalities are available on the platform.

The objective is to allow voters to make an informed choice.

The Marquis de Morès, born in 1858 and died in 1896, co-founded the Antisemitic League of France.

He was a colonial activist.

Charles Devos (1864-1931) was mayor of Garches.
