In the second trial about the life-threatening impact of a man in front of a moving freight train, the Karlsruhe Regional Court again sentenced the main defendant to ten years in prison.

The court found the 27-year-old guilty of attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm on Monday.

His 24-year-old brother was sentenced to a fine of 120 daily rates of ten euros.

In the first trial, another chamber of the court had imposed a suspended sentence.

The Syrian brothers had successfully appealed the first verdict.

The new judgment is not yet final.

In the summer of 2020, out of frustration about his living situation in Germany, the older brother suddenly pushed a then 54-year-old man who was waiting at the train station in Waghäusel between Karlsruhe and Heidelberg onto the track bed.

With kicks and punches, he prevented the man from climbing onto the platform when an almost 600-meter-long freight train approached at about 90 km/h.

The victim was able to squeeze into a narrow gap and survived with multiple broken bones.

It still suffers from the consequences to this day.
