The author of these lines admits that he is a big fan of crossword games like "Scrabble" and spends a significant part of his free time with the Wordfeud app, in which you have to create Duden-compliant words against more than twenty people at the same time.

The website https://babbl.xyz/ is similarly irresistible – here you can take part in a gigantic crossword game in real time.

Don't be put off by the initially confusing navigation, click on the upper right menu box.

Then enter a username and click play or log in via Facebook.

At the bottom edge of the screen you will see seven randomly selected letter boxes that you can now use the mouse to place as you wish on the grid that the network community has diligently filled out.

Once you have formed a word, click on the tick on the middle right edge of the screen - or on the cross to delete your attempt.

It must be an English term, but simple words like "you" will do.

If it is a valid word, you will get the corresponding score and new letters.

It gets more exciting when you click on the clock symbol in the second navigation box from the top: Now you play in real time and have to score as many points as possible in thirty seconds.

For each successfully placed word you will be credited with the corresponding number of seconds.

So, in theory, you can play forever this way.

How long do you last in practice?
