Impersonate his twin brother to get huge financial compensation

Wayne Bowen, 64, was sentenced Tuesday to two years in federal prison after receiving tens of thousands of dollars in US military veteran benefits using his brother's identity, the Associated Press revealed.

As part of the plea agreement, Bowen must pay $63,773 in compensation.

Bowen, who has pleaded guilty to identity theft, obtained a Florida cash by using his twin brother's ID, Social Security card and discharge papers to apply for federally subsidized housing benefits for military veterans.

After filing the fraudulent papers, officials said, US authorities provided the Department of Veterans Affairs with Bowen $32,434 in medical services.

In addition, the Department of Housing and Urban Development approved his subsidy of $18,905, while the Department of Agriculture provided him with food benefits of $12,434, according to Complex.

The man who pleaded guilty said he had been using his twin brother's identity for years.

His brother, who resides in another state, also asserted that he never gave Bowen permission to use his identity, and never applied for the above benefits himself.
