In Tibetan, Mount Everest means "goddess" and "fairy". A large number of Chinese and foreign tourists come here, but this snow-capped peak is not easy to get close to.

On October 1, 2008, the Everest Border Police Station of the Tibet Shigatse Border Management Detachment was established.

This is the only law enforcement unit in the core scenic spot of Mount Everest, and it mainly undertakes the tasks of border control, social management, and tourist vehicle inspection services in the core scenic spot of Mount Everest.

4,500 meters is the altitude of the police station and the spiritual height of the frontier police standing here. The fickle weather on the mountain tests the will of the "Guardians of Mount Everest" all the time.

Take root where you need it

"Take a car, go to the police office of Mount Everest Base Camp, let's go!" In the early morning, following the command of the director Gesang, the patrol car drove to the police office of Mount Everest Base Camp.

The police office of Mount Everest Base Camp is about 5,200 meters above sea level and 20 kilometers away from the police station.

"Every time I go from the police station to the police office, there is never a shortage of partners on this road." Policeman Wang Pu said that in addition to the clear sky and changing clouds, there are also yak and sheep that can be seen in the four seasons. Snow Pig stuck his head out of the hole.

From the age of 21 to 34, on duty at the foot of the world's highest peak, Wang Pu has lost his initial excitement.

"When I first came, I thought it was sacred, but I faced it every day after that, and I gradually lost my sense of it."

Due to long-term hypoxia, exposure to the sun, and climbing on ice and snow, Wang Pu's lips turned purple, his face covered in "Plateau Red" was left with multiple scars burned by ultraviolet rays, and his rough hands were split open after another...

Winter is the best season for tourists to see the whole picture of Mount Everest, but it is also the most difficult season for Wang Pu and the police.

High winds, dusty weather, and occasionally heavy snow and hail.

"No matter how many clothes you wear, it's cold, and the wind is so strong that the barracks are blown down."

However, the hardest days are over.

In the early years, the police station had poor facilities, no network, and only two tents on duty.

Later, the police station upgraded and transformed the duty point into a police office in the scenic spot, providing umbrellas, hot water, and portable scanning code charging treasures to provide tourists with more convenient services.

Not long ago, a tourist named Tao lost an action camera in the scenic spot. After searching for it to no avail, he called the police with the last glimmer of hope.

It was 10 pm when the police station received the police, and the police immediately launched an investigation.

Wang Pu finally locked the target by viewing the surveillance video and analyzing the trajectory of suspicious persons.

At 10 am the next day, the camera was returned to its original owner, and Tao was very excited.

"My son was lost next to the Monument at Mount Everest Base Camp, please help me, and help me find my son!" At 20:00 on April 23, 2021, the police station received an alarm from a tourist, saying that his 15-year-old son had lost contact with him. where to go.

To this end, the police went deep into the core area of Mount Everest, and by the light of the flashlight, climbed the slope in the direction of the Rongbu Temple to look for it.

At about 1:30 a.m. the next day, the boy was finally found near the Mount Everest Authority checkpoint, 200 meters in front of the Mount Everest Base Camp Monument.

From the loss of the camera, to the loss of contact with tourists, every time you receive a police officer, it is a new challenge.

According to statistics, in 2021 alone, the police station will rescue more than 100 tourists, without 1 complaint, and without 1 tourist suffering losses due to untimely assistance.

4800 kilometers of patrol roads a year

Every year, the police have to patrol more than 120 times, each about 40 kilometers, 4800 kilometers a year.

They walked at the foot of Mount Everest, among rubble, glaciers and ice towers.

"Although the high temperature and hypoxia here all year round have left me with a lot of root causes, as long as I see Mount Everest, I will feel happy." Director Gesang said that 365 days a year, everyone has never taken off their long johns.

In winter, the cold wind penetrated the jacket like an embroidery needle, and everyone was freezing with joint pain during patrols.

Living here for a long time will inevitably cause some discomfort to the heart, and Danshen dripping pills should be carried with you.

Every policeman has been "shamed" by Mount Everest.

Starting from the foot of the iceberg, everyone held hands and climbed the steep hillside.

The oxygen was getting thinner and thinner, the feet were as heavy as lead, panting with every step, and the lips turned blue-purple.

Gesang recalled that once he and his colleagues stayed at the base camp overnight and pressed several large rocks to fix the tent around the tent, but to no avail.

In the middle of the night, a large hole was cut out of the tent, and the stones on the ground were blown away by the wind...

Before 2017, the police officers on duty lived in tents, but now they have been replaced by container houses.

"Although I can still hear the wind at night, it's not as cold as before, and I can sleep peacefully. For us, this is already very happy and satisfying." Gesang said.

Because of love, I don't think the years are long.

The police at the Everest Border Police Station have injected their original aspirations and mission into their blood and into the bone marrow, so that they fulfilled their mission without fear of difficulties in such a harsh place.

They inherit the blood genes of the "Himalaya Guardian Spirit", measure with their feet, pay tribute with their hearts, their footsteps have not stopped, and their beliefs have become stronger and stronger.
