Through calligraphy and in golden colors, plastic artist Diaa Allam transformed inspirational quotes from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, into 21 murals, presented with a creative vision that adorn the Madinat Jumeirah market in Dubai.

The new murals join a variety of initiatives and distinctive artworks present in Souk Madinat Jumeirah, for creators from the UAE, the region and the world, which contributes to enhancing the cultural and artistic scene in the country, and consolidates Dubai's position as a magnet for creators in various fields.

Diaa Allam used classic colors in the murals, focusing on gold and brown, and used a free style of writing in Arabic calligraphy, allowing the art form to match the colors and shape of the market.

The new murals mix traditional Islamic art with the contemporary form of lettering, giving visitors a unique experience that adorns the corridors of Souk Madinat Jumeirah, merging with its form that blends authenticity and contemporary.

consistency

About this artistic project, Diaa Allam told "Emirates Today": "I wrote quotes for His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which number up to 10, but I worked on distributing them on 21 murals," adding about the content of the sayings: "I chose quotes." Inspirational and motivational, I put it in golden and brown colors to match the colors of Souk Madinat Jumeirah on the one hand, and it gives the sayings of luxury on the other hand, in addition to that, the colors carry a strong mixed contrast, and this adds a lot to the work.”

He pointed out that the technique he chose to embody the sayings was based on simplicity, so that the writings were distributed in two ways, the first for people to read, while the second distributed its letters and scattered artistically.

He explained that he relied on his own style of writing, without resorting to any kind of classical fonts, expressing his happiness for choosing this work, especially since Madinat Jumeirah, which combines originality and modernity.

Challenges

Diaa Allam did not face difficulties in carrying out the work, despite the fact that the murals are very high.

The artist pointed out that working in a public place, although it carries challenges, represents an important addition, because it constitutes an opportunity to publish his works, as well as to expand the public base, stressing that Arabic calligraphy has become more popular than usual, as the creators working in this field aim to Communicating Arabic calligraphy to the public in a manner consistent with contemporary reality in forms and patterns that bring this art closer to the audience, which means using a lot of media that makes it contemporary.

The starting point for artwork that is presented in a public place, according to Diaa Allam, is to combine the saying and its content, as well as between the aesthetics of the work, and how it corresponds to the place. This balance is what makes the work that is displayed in public places attractive.

He believed that the murals draw attention and attract everyone in open spaces and public places, unlike exhibitions that are intended for an elite audience, pointing out that murals and similar initiatives direct art to be for everyone, bringing creativity closer to people and adding aesthetics to places.

Diaa Allam, who was born in the UAE, considered that modern Dubai thought was the first catalyst for him to use an unconventional style in art and writing, and this is what prompted him to develop his style and create new media in presenting artwork.

Dia used a free style of writing in Arabic calligraphy, allowing the art form to match the colors and shape of the market.
