In the trial for the rape of an 85-year-old woman, a man was sentenced to ten years and six months in prison at the Ravensburg district court in Baden-Württemberg.

The court also ordered on Friday that the thirty-one-year-old be placed in a psychiatric ward.

An expert had certified that he had schizophrenia.

The verdict is not yet legally binding.

At the start of the trial in mid-March, the 31-year-old defendant confessed to having pushed the elderly woman down a slope in August 2021 in Weingarten in Upper Swabia, raped her and left her with life-threatening injuries.

He was therefore convicted of a particularly serious case of rape and attempted murder, as well as sexually molesting two women aged 75 and 64 shortly after the rape.

With its verdict, the court largely followed the pleadings of the defense.

The 31-year-old man's lawyer had emphasized that the man was a sick person.

The public prosecutor had also requested placement in a psychiatric ward, but with a life sentence.

The lawyer for the 85-year-old co-plaintiff, on the other hand, emphasized that the man had planned the act and not committed it because of his schizophrenia, but for his sexual satisfaction.

He had therefore asked for life imprisonment.
