Al-Azhar appoints a woman to a position that was exclusively for men

In a first step in its history, Al-Azhar in Egypt appointed a woman to the position of head of the Al-Azhar region in one of the governorates of Lower Egypt, a position that was restricted to men only.

And the “Masrawy” website quoted Al-Azhar’s deputy, Muhammad Al-Dhawini, that this step will be announced in the coming days, and indicated that “this is the first time that a woman has held the position of head of a central administration for the Al-Azhar region,” and said that it is “possible to represent a virtue The Grand Imam in ceremonies.

In an interview published by "Masrawy" website, Al-Duwaini noted that "the position of head of the Al-Azhar region was restricted to men only," and said that "the eminence of the Grand Imam is a supporter of promoting women's competencies in leadership positions that allow this."

The Undersecretary of Al-Azhar added that there are 24 deans at Al-Azhar University, and 35 female deans in the faculties of Cairo and the regions.
