Beaches in the northeast of Grande Terre (Guadeloupe) were once again affected by a massive sargassum grounding.

This is the eleventh time since 2011 that the phenomenon has been observed.

The arrival of brown algae particularly affected the Porte d'Enfer beach, in Anse-Bertrand (Guadeloupe), which is particularly busy at this time of year, says La Première.

An unpleasant odor

The site is indeed acclaimed by tourists and Guadeloupeans since it offers access to the sea as well as numerous hiking trails.

The presence of stagnant sargassum constitutes an olfactory and visual nuisance against which it is difficult to fight.

The immense amount of deposited algae can only be effectively cleared with machines.

The municipality of Anse-Bertrand has launched a call for tenders to choose the company that will collect the sargassum.

The operation will begin when the equipment financed at 80% by the prefecture is delivered.

The municipality already has a truck and is now waiting for a backhoe loader, a tractor and a screener.
