The Spanish Society of Epidemiology (SEE) has not ruled out this Wednesday that the mask will once again be mandatory and has asked for "prudence" when learning of the

increase in incidence after Easter

, according to data presented on Tuesday by the Ministry of Health.

The increase in the incidence of 108 points in a week among those over 60 years of age and the rise in hospital occupancy have led epidemiologists to remember that, despite the suppression of the use of face masks indoors and the change in protocol in case of being infected by covid-19, "the pandemic is not over yet".

In a statement, the SEE has said that "it does not rule out that the mask may become mandatory again if the epidemiological situation worsens", something that "has already happened in other countries".

Given the new surveillance and control strategy for the virus, this medical society has presented a practical guide to avoid contagion by coronavirus.

The document agreed by the epidemiologists ensures that the use of face masks in closed spaces and in places where the safety distance cannot be guaranteed continues to be "highly recommended" and urges the population to get vaccinated and receive the third booster dose.

In addition, in case of showing symptoms of acute respiratory infection (even when it is not a confirmed case of covid-19), the SEE recommends teleworking and, if this is not possible or the clinical situation worsens, request sick leave, use the mask systematically keep the safety distance of 1.5 meters and avoid contact with vulnerable people.

They add that it is convenient to maintain the use of the mask in family gatherings or with close friends at risk, especially if these meetings take place in closed spaces.
