Following Russia's military invasion of Ukraine, university students who have been raising funds for humanitarian assistance donated more than 1.8 million yen to the UNHCR = United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

A group centered on university students in Tokyo has been conducting fund-raising activities on the streets such as in front of Shinjuku station and online since last month to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukrainian people.

So far, more than 1.8 million yen has been collected, and on the 25th, three core university students visited the UN UNHCR Association in Minato-ku, Tokyo, and handed a list of donations to Secretary General Masayuki Kawai.



In response, Secretary-General Kawai handed a letter of appreciation from UNHCR to the students.



Mr. Kawai said, "The younger generation has the ability to act and feel the great power to change by themselves, so I hope we can continue to cooperate in the future."



Miyu Ozawa, a third-year student at Waseda University, who is the representative of the group, said, "At first I was worried about how wide the circle would be, but I'm glad that I was able to shape it in this way. It's a milestone, but it's not the end. , I want to continue doing what I can while cherishing our thoughts. "



The group will continue to cooperate with Ukrainians in Japan to consider holding charity events.
