The White House is running out of glasses.

During the tenure of former President George W. Bush, who resided with his First Lady Laura on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington until 2009, wine, cognac and water glasses became scarce.

With his democratic successor Barack Obama, the “glassware” was barely enough for a state banquet.

Stewart McLaurin, head of the White House Historical Association, told CNN that the last time the White House stocks of glasses were replenished was about 50 years ago.

At the time, Pat Nixon, who moved out with her husband Richard early after the Watergate scandal in 1974, is said to have been shopping on a grand scale.

Their successors Laura Bush and Michelle Obama, traditionally entrusted with decorating the White House as President's wives, chose new porcelain but forgot to complement the fresh design with fresh glasses.

And Melania Trump, who moved to Washington with her husband Donald Trump in early 2017?

Should not have recognized the seriousness of the situation.

According to chief historian McLaurin, the former First Lady was discreetly made aware of the missing glasses.

Although her home country of Slovenia is one of the top addresses in the art of glassblowing, Trump did not commission any glasses.

The White House Historical Society is now banking on Jill Biden, the current Glasses Commissioner.

"We would say that we don't want to influence anyone," McLaurin said cautiously.

"It would just be a suggestion we made."
