62% of Saudis have been subjected to financial fraud.. "Banks and policemen"

An opinion poll revealed that about two-thirds of Saudis were exposed to financial fraud attempts through electronic means, and that most of the fraudsters said that they represented banks or policemen.

And 62 percent of those surveyed (1045 participants) said they had been exposed to financial fraud attempts through phone calls or electronic means.

The poll, which was reported by Okaz newspaper on the National Center for Public Opinion Polls of the King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue, showed that 28% of those who were exposed to financial fraud attempts said that there was a relationship between the financial fraud attempt they were exposed to and a previous activity they had undertaken, such as buying. Through the Internet, a postal shipment, paying an account with a bank card in a specific destination, when someone called claiming to be the same party.

And 14% said they lost money due to financial fraud through phone calls or other electronic means.

With regard to the impact of the financial loss, 53% of the respondents said that it negatively affected their lifestyle and the lives of their families, while 16% believed that it impeded their saving plans, while 31% said that the loss made them give up plans to purchase certain needs.

Regarding the party to which the fraudsters claim to belong, banks came in the forefront with a rate of 72%, while the police accounted for 18%, and postal consignments recorded 10%.

 The survey showed that 58 percent of Saudis had one of their acquaintances, including relatives, friends, neighbors, and colleagues, exposed to an attempted financial fraud through phone calls or electronic means.

While 43% of the respondents said that one of their acquaintances lost money due to financial fraud through calls or electronic means.

Regarding the method used by the fraudster to persuade the victim to provide private information or transfer a sum of money, the survey found that 53% of those methods focused on application completion fees, 31% on pictures and numbers of goods for purchase, and 16%, in the form of fees provided in advance.
