Rescuing a woman who fell into the toilet behind her phone

Firefighters after rescuing the woman

A woman accidentally dropped her cell phone into a toilet pit in an outhouse in a national forest and fell inside while trying to retrieve it, and was rescued by Washington state firefighters.

Brennon Fire Chief Tim Manley said the woman, who was atop Walker Mountain in the Olympic National Forest northwest of Seattle, was using her phone when it fell into the toilet on Tuesday, the Kitsap Sun reported.

Manley explained that in trying to retrieve the phone, the woman dismounted the toilet seat and used a dog leash to reach for the phone and then used the leash to tie herself up when she reached it, but her efforts failed and she fell upside down the main toilet hole.

After she tried to go out on her own for 10 to 15 minutes and failed, she used her phone and called 911.

Responding firefighters were later able to pull it out of the bunker.

The Brennon Fire Department said the woman said she was unharmed.

The same source added, "She was washed and strongly encouraged to seek medical attention after being exposed to human excrement, but she only wanted to leave."

Manley concluded: "I've been in this profession for 40 years, but this incident is the first of its kind."
