A suspected drunk driver drove into a group of people in Leverkusen on Saturday and then fled.

A 30-year-old woman and her two children aged nine and eleven were injured in the accident, as the police in Cologne announced in the evening.

There is no reliable information on the severity of the injuries.

The 47-year-old man who fled was arrested at his home address because of the precise statements made by witnesses.

According to the police, the driver lost control of his car at a roundabout in Leverkusen, probably due to excessive speed.

The traces of the accident at the scene of the crime are currently being determined, the police said in the evening.

On the other hand, large areas of the roundabout were cordoned off with warning tape, and buses could not continue.

An empty stroller sat on the sidewalk.

Regarding the injuries to the victims of the accident, the police initially said that the woman and one of her children had suffered serious injuries.

The second child was slightly injured.

The “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” had previously reported about it.
