Decades after his crime... Texas executes the "dean" of the convicts

More than thirty years after the murder of which he was convicted, last Thursday, the US state of Texas carried out a death sentence against the oldest prisoner who had this punishment, despite pleas from opponents of the death penalty for clemency.

Carl Pontion, 78, received a lethal injection in the Huntsville prison in Texas, according to the state's prison authorities.

In his last words, Karl Pontion said, "I regret what I have done. I am ready to die."

The victim's family, as well as a policeman, were present during the execution of the sentence, according to "AFP".
