"Instagram" changes the order of appearance of posts ... to encourage "original" content

Instagram has announced that it has changed the order in which posts appear on users' pages.

The company will feature more "original" content, rather than posts that have been reshared from elsewhere, according to Instagram chief Adam Mosseri.

This will mean that it will show fewer posts that simply reshare Rails, Instagram's competitor to TikTok, for example.

"This is particularly focused on the idea of authenticity," Mosseri said, in a video announcing the change.

He continued, “If you create something from scratch, you should get more credit than if you were re-sharing something you found via someone else.

We will do more to try to make the original content stand out more, especially compared to republished content.”

The move is one of a number of significant changes that Instagram has announced in recent months, as the app looks to fix users' stagnation issues and the threat from other apps like Tik Tok.

Mosseri said the goal of the recent changes is to help boost the publishing of the work of the people who create the content.

"Creative content creators are very important to the future of (Instagram), and we want to make sure they get all the recognition they deserve," he added.

This will also come along with other changes such as introducing product tags, so that people can more easily sell content through their own posts.
