The Emirati cultural scene celebrates the launch of the activities of the second edition of the UAE Book Fair, which is organized by the Sharjah Book Authority, in cooperation with the Emirates Writers Union, until the day after tomorrow, at the authority's headquarters, where the works of 970 Emirati writers are displayed in one place.

On the importance of the exhibition, which started its activities, the day before yesterday, the Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri said: “The Emirati Book Fair continues the cultural movement, which is led by Sharjah under the directives and visions of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who Putting the book’s advancement on the list of the emirate’s civilized project, and making it a pillar of sustainable development, as it embodies on the ground the extent of interest in the Emirati writers and creator, and its message is integrated with efforts to develop and support the book industry and the production of Arab knowledge and its global counterpart.”

He added: "The launch of His Highness, the Ruler of Sharjah, of his new book in the exhibition carried great and many messages to all Emirati writers and creators, as it is an affirmation that the exhibition and the Emirate of Sharjah are the home of every Emirati writer, and that the arrival of the Emirati cultural discourse to the Arab and global horizon begins with the strength of the national presence and communication. For his part, the head of the Emirates Writers Union, Sultan Al-Amimi, stressed that “every cultural event that brings together writers and publishers with readers and the public is a great and important addition to the local cultural scene,” pointing out that the exhibition urges every Emirati creator to make more efforts, to enrich the creative scene. And invest the opportunities available to market the book and contribute to the dissemination of the culture of reading.

While the head of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Musallam said: "The Institute's participation in the UAE Book Fair stems from our constant keenness on active and qualitative participation in various cultural events, especially those related to the book industry and publishing."

He pointed out that the Institute is participating in this second session of the exhibition with a selection of its Emirati publications, including dictionaries, encyclopedias, books and publications that enrich the field of historical, heritage and cultural studies, pointing out that this session will open the way to enhance the status of Emirati writers.

For his part, the cultural advisor to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Director General of Al Qasimi Publications, Dr. Youssef Eidabi, described the exhibition as an important event, because it is based on the national dimension and on the grounds of Emirati publishing houses, adding: “After more than 40 years since the launch of The cultural project of Sharjah, we have a large number of local publishing houses concerned with Emirati books, and I hope that the exhibition will develop into a national field and a broad incubator for Emirati books, which represent identity, memory, future and Emirati creativity.”

For his part, the Executive Director of the Emirates Publishers Association, Rashid Al-Kous, said, “The exhibition is a distinctive addition to the Sharjah cultural events agenda, and will have a direct impact on the Emirati publishing industry, especially as it comes in the context of integrated and multiple efforts that have dimensions and impact, including qualitative initiatives to promote the culture of reading. International participation in Arab and foreign book forums, and the exhibitions, events and prizes that the country is witnessing to advance Emirati writers and writers.
