For the first time, a majority of citizens are in favor of Swedish membership of NATO, according to a survey conducted by Novus.

51 percent want Sweden to join the defense alliance.

At the same time, more than 70 Swedish cartoonists have joined forces in a call against Sweden's military rearmament.

“Part 2022 - No to nuclear weapons!

- No to NATO! ”, As the call is called, is coordinated by the satirist Karin Z Sunvisson.

In war, images have been used as warfare.

Now we want to use our images for peace, for militarism and for rearmament.

"Violence feeds violence"

According to Karin Z Sunvisson, the idea of the initiative is to show that violence breeds violence.

The call also formulates a protest against "the Swedish government has chosen not to sign the UN agreement banning nuclear weapons"

By using the image medium, Sunvisson hopes to be able to give a lasting impression.

Magdalena Andersson with atomic bomb

Among the artists who signed the appeal are Lasse Åberg, Lena Sjöberg, Jan Lööf and Cecilia Torudd.

The satirical images that the appeal consists of depict, among others, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, dystopian landscapes and Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson carrying an atomic bomb.

Joining NATO does not automatically entail the placement of nuclear weapons in the member state.

The organization does not have its own nuclear weapons but has access to the United States and the United Kingdom.

In Europe, according to the UN, there are nuclear weapons deployed in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Turkey.
