At the fast breeder reactor "Monju" in Tsuruga City, Fukui Prefecture, where decommissioning work continues, the work to move all the nuclear fuel remaining in the reactor to a temporary storage location has been completed.

At Monju, where decommissioning work began four years ago, 124 nuclear fuels remaining in the reactor from the 30th of last month will be placed in a temporary storage place called an "outside fuel storage tank" filled with liquid sodium. The work to move has begun.

This work was completed before dawn on the 22nd, and Mr. Kunihiro Yoshida, Director of Japan Atomic Energy Agency, who manages Monju, met with Deputy Mayor Toshiyuki Ikezawa of Tsuruga City.

Director Yoshida reported that there were no problems with the work, and that after June, the work to store the nuclear fuel in the spent fuel pool to cool it with water will begin.

In response, Deputy Mayor Ikezawa said, "I want you to be careful and prudent and achieve your goals firmly," and demanded that safety be the highest priority in the future.

JAEA hopes to complete the storage work in the spent fuel pool by the end of the year, and then to complete the export to French companies by 2037.

In addition, from next year, we will start the work of extracting the liquid sodium used for cooling the nuclear reactor.
