Is being surprised by people wearing Hanfu a sign of cultural insecurity?

On April 21, Chen Lai, dean of the Institute of Sinology at Tsinghua University, refuted this at a media conference held during the 2022 annual meeting of the Boao Forum for Asia.

Chen Lai said that in the late 1990s, a grass-roots "guoxue craze" arose in China. In the new century, the "guoxue craze" has grown stronger and stronger, and China has greatly restored the cultural confidence of the Chinese nation.

He said, for example, that South Korea and Japan also have their own national costumes, but they are only worn on certain occasions, certain festivals or certain milestones in life, which does not mean that this nation has no cultural confidence.
