HBO surpasses Netflix with 13 million new subscribers

HBO and HBO Max recently announced that they added 13 million new subscribers last year, citing their demise at a time when rival Netflix suffers from a decline in subscriber numbers and significant losses.

Earlier this week, Netflix reported quarterly earnings results that showed its subscribers dropping for the first time in a decade, but that's not the case for all live-streaming operators as it seems.

Figures show that HBO added nearly 13 million subscribers last year across both traditional HBO and HBO Max, including a growth of three million in the most recent quarter.

Now it offers both services to 76.8 million subscribers worldwide, albeit far from competing with the 221.64 million subscribers of “Netflix” or even the competing third operator, Disney Plus, which has 129.8 million subscribers.

According to the "Verge" website, "HBO" expects additional growth in new areas in which it is expanding, knowing that it owns a large number of dramatic productions, especially for the Warner Bros. library.

The company, like other companies, allows sharing passwords for several users, which its competitor, Netflix, announced that it is in the process of restricting it in order to limit 100 million subscribers from benefiting from this feature, among several steps to reduce the decline in its profits this year.
