France Télévisions and the BBC Studio have launched a major consultation to find out the favorite book of the French.

This survey will give rise to a series of short programs broadcast during the summer, then a vote, the results of which will be revealed during a major evening in prime time on France Télévisions.

Whether you are a compulsive or occasional reader, it's a safe bet that a novel, a comic strip, a thriller, a play or even a manga has particularly marked you in your life.

These books are making a new place for themselves on TV.

France Télévisions and the BBC Studio are launching a major survey to find out the favorite book of the French.

The results of this survey will be revealed in a special bonus program on France 2. This operation simply called

The favorite book of the French

allows you to vote first for your three favorite books, without any pre-established list.

“During the first confinement, we said with France Télévisions that, as reading was booming, it was time to make a popular program around it”, explains Géry Leymergie, director of content at BBC Studio.

"And it so happened that we had in our catalog

The Big Read

, a show that took place in England more than 20 years ago. The ranking that came out of this consultation was quite original, because the favorite book of the English is

The Lord of the Rings

. In the top 10 were George Orwell with

1984,

Jane Austen with

Pride and Prejudice

, obviously Harry Potter, but also Winnie the Pooh."

Voting already open

It is therefore this English format which is about to be adapted for France, with a prime time broadcast.

"The consultation of the French began on April 18 and will continue for a month. We invite the French to go to a site and tell us their three favorite books", specifies Géry Leymergie.

“We are going to sort through all of this to arrive at a list of 50 books which will be the subject of 50 short programs, embodied by 50 celebrities, broadcast this summer for the antennas of France Télévisions. This will then open a new phase of voting among the 50 books off the list."

The top 20 favorite works of the French will be revealed during a special bonus on France 2 which will take place next fall.

And it is obviously during this evening that we will discover the favorite book of the French.

If you want your favorite book to have a chance of being selected for France 2's special evening, you can vote on the dedicated France Télévisions site.

You have until May 18 to indicate your three favorite books.

Then, from July 18, you can select your favorite book from the 50 books that came out on top in the votes.
