Earlier this month, Ferrero urgently recalled Kinder chocolate products made at its factory in Belgium due to possible links to cases of salmonellosis in children.

We know more about the extent of contamination linked to Ferrero products.

As of April 19, 42 cases of salmonellosis "with a strain belonging to the epidemic have been identified by the National Reference Center (CNR) for salmonella at the Institut Pasteur in France", reports Public Health France (SPF).

These cases are distributed in eleven of the thirteen regions of the territory.

There are 7 cases in Ile-de-France, 7 others in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, 6 in the Grand-Est, 4 in Hauts-de-France, 4 in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, 3 in New -Aquitaine, 3 in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, 3 in Normandy, 2 in Brittany, 2 in Occitanie, and 1 in Corsica.

13 hospitalizations but no deaths

32 patients confirmed having consumed Ferrero chocolates before their symptoms began (between January 20 and March 23).

13 people were hospitalized but SPF does not deplore any deaths.

The health authorities consider that the recall of Kinder products has made it possible to "limit the occurrence in France of new cases of salmonellosis in the coming days and weeks".

The recall of the products concerned (Kinder Surprise, Schoko-Bons, Kinder Mini Eggs, etc.) involved several hundred tons of chocolates, the Italian brand had indicated.
