A fatwa by the Sheikh of Al-Azhar ignites the communication sites: a Muslim must be purified when touching the “Torah” or “the Bible”!

The name of the Sheikh of Al-Azhar topped the social media platforms after statements to the newspaper "Voice of Al-Azhar" in which he confirmed that there are no different religions in the Qur'an, but there are divine messages that express the one divine religion, pointing out that there is a unity linking the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad, may God's prayers and peace be upon him, with others. The prophets, which is the brotherhood, citing the words of the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him: “I am the closest of people to Jesus, the son of Mary, in this world and the hereafter.

Their mothers are various, and their religion is one.”

Al-Tayyib added that Islam, which was revealed to Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, presents itself as the last link in the chain of divine religion, and also states that the origin of religion is the same in all these messages. Guidance of mankind from wandering and misguidance, and that is why God Almighty - in the Noble Qur’an - describes both the Torah and the Gospel as “guidance and light,” and the Qur’an itself describes itself as the book that confirms the two previous holy books: the Torah and the Injil.

He continued: “We read in the Qur’an what indicates that the Bible supports the Torah, and the Qur’an supports the Bible and the Torah,” noting that Muslim jurists believe that it is not permissible for a Muslim woman or a Muslim to touch the Qur’an without purification, and this matter applies to touching the Bible and the Torah, so it is necessary not to touch them if The Muslim was impure.

The Sheikh of Al-Azhar confirmed that this view was taught in heritage books, and taught by students of jurisprudence at Al-Azhar University and secondary school;

In view of the origin of the Torah and the Injeel as a book that God, Blessed and Exalted be He, revealed to Jesus, son of Mary, according to what he said.

Al-Tayeb's statements did not go unnoticed, and sparked controversy between his supporters, and those who resented him.

The writer-journalist Osama Al-Alfi said that the Grand Imam calls for not restricting our Coptic brothers in their food and worship, and the Minister of Endowments restricts Muslims in their worship, and Al-Alfi demanded in a comment on his Facebook account for equality!

Adel Abu Al-Maati described Al-Tayeb's statements as suspicious and raise many question marks.

He continued, “Are they going to circulate the Bible to people who may not hold the Qur’an itself? That is why they say purify themselves before holding the Torah and the Gospel.

I am a man who has the Bible as a specialist. I look at it from time to time because I practice responding to them. You ask me to purify to eat it like the Qur’an.. Why?

If I, as a Muslim, are not recognized and I think they are perverts?

.

Abu Al-Maati concluded that Al-Tayyib’s position is very strange and incomprehensible and

ended by saying: Do they themselves touch their books while they are in a state of purity?

And what is our relationship to their books, will we pray with them along with the Qur’an?

What is this ignorance?

On the other hand, the writer Shawqi Akl described Al-Tayeb's statements as a big step forward, and a real response to the attempts to ignite sectarian strife.

In the same context, activists described al-Tayyib’s words as very wise, recalling the famous saying: It is better to come late than not to come.
