The Science Council of Japan, which was reviewing the selection procedure for candidate members, has decided on a new policy, such as announcing the reasons for selecting appointed members.

The Science Council of Japan was reviewing the organization and the selection procedure for member candidates, triggered by the fact that the six member candidates recommended by the government were not appointed by the government.

Then, in order to improve the transparency of the selection process, after the members were appointed, we decided on a new policy that included publicizing the reasons for selection, research achievements, and aspirations.

In addition, the area for selecting candidate members is specified as a person who has made excellent research or achievements not only in universities and research institutes but also in the industrial, medical, legal, and educational fields.

This new policy will be applied from the selection of members appointed in October next year.

On the other hand, the appointment of six people that the Science Council has so far requested from the government has not been realized.

Takaaki Kajita, Chairman of the Science Council of Japan, said, "We created it with reference to the opinions of outside experts in order to strengthen accountability to society. We would like to resolve the requested appointments of the six people as soon as possible." rice field.
