As the press service of the ministry explained, the content of the film "did not meet the requirements of the legislation of the Russian Federation", namely the Federal Law "On the Protection of Children from Information Harmful to Their Health and Development."

Also, the department revealed a violation in the actions of the employee who processed the necessary documents, which led to the illegal issuance of a rental certificate.

The employee was fired, and the director of the department of cinematography and digital development was given a "severe reprimand", writes RIA Novosti.

“The rental certificate issued earlier has been revoked,” the Ministry of Culture said.

In September 2021, American Catholics held protests in New York City against Paul Verhoeven's film The Temptation, which depicts a sexual relationship between two nuns.

The Russian Ministry of Culture also refused to issue a distribution certificate to the film.
