The airline Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has decided to set up two programs to fight against food waste.

These measures concern people traveling in economy class.

The "SWISS Saveurs Pre-Order" will allow them to pre-order fresh products online to consume during the flight, says Air Journal.

An order can be made up to 36 hours before the flight.

Will be offered: salads, sandwiches, desserts prepared by Confiserie Sprüngli.

For longer trips, a burger should even be on the menu.

As of 20 April, we offer our guests a “Surprise Package” with unsold fresh food at a reduced price on flights ending their rotation.

With SWISS Saveurs To Go, you can now enjoy various delicacies from our award-winning culinary concept SWISS Saveurs at more favorable conditions.

Offer unconsumed products

Travelers will pay directly on the plane, therefore cheaper.

This first program concerns short and medium-haul flights, over 50 minutes, arriving or departing from Zurich-Kloten and Geneva-Cointrin airports, from this Wednesday, April 20.

"The Pre-Order initiative aims to better match the production of fresh products to demand in order to reduce the amount of food waste on board", explains Tamur Goudarzi, Chief Officer of the Swiss subsidiary of Lufthansa.

The second program is “SWISS Saveurs to go”.

It attacks, this time, the products which were not consumed on the last flight of the day.

The crew will thus offer travelers the stocks available, after the classic service.

Passengers will be able to collect these products at an advantageous rate and prevent them from ending up in the trash.

A "surprise basket" will be given to those interested by the on-board staff.
