The award ceremony of the "Green Academic Award", which is given to those who have made achievements in research on plants and nature conservation, was held in Tokyo on the 18th with the attendance of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress.

The award ceremony for the "Greenery Day" was held in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, before "Greenery Day" on the 4th of next month, and Their Majesties also attended.

This year's award winners made a hypothesis about the coexistence of various types of trees with Kiyotaka Okada, an advisor to the Tatsuya Extension Center of Ryukoku University, who established the research method of molecular genetics using Arabidopsis thaliana as the first research model plant in Japan. Professor Kaoru Kitajima of Kyoto University Graduate School, who demonstrated in tropical forests, received an award from Prime Minister Kishida.



In addition, individuals and groups that contributed to local greening promotion activities were also commended, and Their Majesties enthusiastically listened to the introduction of the award winners and applauded.



Attendance at the award ceremony was inherited from Their Majesties the Emperor and his wife due to the abdication of the Emperor, and this was the second attendance following last year.
