Guinness World Records crowns the oldest dog in the world

Toby Keith, at the age of 21 years and 66 days, has become the oldest living dog in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records.

Keith, who resides in Florida, USA, belongs to the dog family known as "Chihuahua".

The dog's owner, Gisela Shore, was quoted by UPI news agency as saying she adopted him from an animal shelter when he was only a few months old.

She added: "I got Keith as a puppy that was given up by an elderly couple, because they were no longer able to take care of him."

"Guinness" included the dog Keith in its encyclopedia as the oldest alive, although the "chihuahua" species does not exceed the age of 18 years.

Commenting on his award of the title, Shore said: "Not many believe that my dog is over 21 years old, as he appears to be in good health compared to his real age."

Before Keith, the dog "Bloe", aged 29 years and 5 months, was the oldest in the world, but he died on November 14, 1939.
