(Fighting against New Coronary Pneumonia) Raising the vaccination rate and stratified triage measures to help Hong Kong stabilize the epidemic

China News Agency, Hong Kong, April 16 (Reporter Wei Huadu) The fifth wave of the new crown pneumonia epidemic in Hong Kong is gradually slowing down, and the number of new positives in a single day has dropped to three digits.

The gradual improvement of the epidemic situation is closely related to the effective anti-epidemic measures, among which measures such as increasing the vaccination rate and stratified treatment have played an important role.

Under the fifth wave of the epidemic in Hong Kong, most of the institutions were infected.

At the beginning of the outbreak, most residents were not vaccinated against COVID-19, and many elderly people living in nursing homes unfortunately died after contracting the virus.

In order to increase the vaccination rate of residents, the Hong Kong Hospital Authority (HA) started to send outreach teams to residential care homes and residential care homes for the disabled to conduct vaccination work since early March. Residents who are suitable for vaccination should receive at least one dose of the vaccine, and those who are suitable for the second dose of the vaccine should be vaccinated before April 15.

As of April 14, the first-dose vaccination rate in residential care homes has increased from 55% in mid-March to 70%, and the vaccination rates in residential care homes for the elderly and residential care homes for the disabled are 67% and 81% respectively.

As for the overall vaccination rate of the second and third doses of the vaccine in residential homes, the rates were 42% and 7% respectively.

In the past two months, the number of community vaccination sites in Hong Kong has also increased to 27, providing convenience for the elderly.

The latest figures show that more than 75% of people over 60 in Hong Kong have received at least two doses of the vaccine.

In order to further increase the vaccination rate of the elderly, the SAR government will provide the fourth dose of the vaccine to those aged 60 or above who have received three doses of the vaccine from April 8.

In order to increase the enthusiasm of citizens to get vaccinated, on February 24, Hong Kong's "Vaccine Pass" was officially implemented.

According to relevant requirements, people entering or staying in designated places such as restaurants, shopping malls, department stores, supermarkets and markets must have been vaccinated.

The measure is implemented in three phases, and citizens must receive the corresponding dose of vaccine before the designated date in each phase before they can enter designated places.

According to the advice of the mainland's anti-epidemic experts in Hong Kong, Hong Kong has adopted stratified treatment measures, so that medical resources can be effectively used for severe cases.

Among them, the first and second floors are public hospitals that receive severe patients; the third floor is for relatively stable patients, who are placed in the Hong Kong Infection Control Center of North Lantau Hospital and the AWE Community Treatment Facility for treatment; the fourth floor is mild, Asymptomatic or recovering patients are placed in community isolation facilities and elderly respite centers for elderly patients for isolation; the fifth floor is for patients who are temporarily at home waiting to enter the isolation facility.

Deng Jincheng, chief administrative manager (medical grade) of the Hospital Authority, said in an interview with a reporter from China News Agency that since the strategy of stratification and centralized treatment was adopted, the number of deaths has gradually declined.

He said a significant number of elderly patients had died in the emergency room in early March, and the situation had improved significantly.
