Hegland was born in Stockholm in 1943 and started the group Hep Stars together with his ragged friend Christer Pettersson in 1963. Later, Svenne Hedlund joined on vocals, Janne Frisk on guitar and vocals and Hans Östlund on keyboards.

When the band had its big breakthrough in the mid-60s, Benny Andersson had taken over the role of keyboard.

The band had their big breakthrough in 1965 and had great success with songs like "Farmer John" and "Cadillac".

In 1973, the band disbanded and Hegland started playing in the group Gummibandet, which toured with Svenne & Lotta during the 80's.

In the late 1990s, Hegland suffered a brain injury that affected his speech and memory.

Lennart Hegland turned 79 years old.
