Egypt forbids i’tikaf in mosques in the last ten nights: whoever wants to perform tahajjud must do it at home

The Egyptian Minister of Awqaf, Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar Gomaa, announced that it is not allowed to perform the Tahajjud and I’tikaf prayers in mosques in the last ten days of Ramadan.

Today, Friday, he stressed that mosques should not be opened after Tarawih prayers until dawn prayers, noting that “whoever wants to perform the ritual prayer should do it in his home, it is desirable that we fill our homes with night prayer, remembrance and recitation of the Holy Qur’an, and there is no room for opening mosques for i’tikaaf or tahajjud this year in light of the continuation of the procedures precautionary measures and social distancing measures.

He also pointed out that "Eid prayers will be held in major and university mosques, in which Fridays are held, and the same controls were held last year in mosques, not in squares, due to the possibility of applying social distancing measures in mosques and the difficulty of controlling their application or the stampede of worshipers on the squares."
