The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reports 156,864 new corona infections within 24 hours.

That's 18,399 fewer cases than on Friday a week ago, when 175,263 positive tests were reported.

The nationwide seven-day incidence continues to fall to 1001.5 from 1015.7 the previous day.

212 other people died in connection with the virus.

This increases the number of reported deaths to 132,900.

Overall, the number of confirmed infections in Germany is now more than 23.3 million.

More than half a billion infected

According to data from the Reuters news agency, more than 500.2 million people worldwide have been infected with the corona virus.

More than 6.5 million have died from it.

The RKI points out that the numbers fluctuate over the holidays due to a lower number of tests and fewer reports and that there may be under-recordings.

Despite the falling numbers, the RKI warned to behave cautiously over Easter.

The infection pressure remains very high.
