Due to the accident that the Tohoku-Hokkaido derailed while driving due to the earthquake that observed a seismic intensity of 6 or higher, some vehicles jumped up due to the shaking that pushed up from below when the train derailed due to the surrounding situation and the driver's testimony. Interviews with national and JR officials revealed that it may have floated off the rails.

Due to the earthquake on the 16th of last month, the Tohoku Shinkansen was running in Miyagi prefecture, 16 of the 17 cars derailed, 6 passengers were injured, and there were 1000 places including rail distortion and overhead line disconnection. Damage was confirmed.

Although some sections were out of service, restoration work proceeded and operation on all lines resumed from the 14th.

The derailment is believed to have occurred just before or shortly after the train that detected the shaking of the earthquake stopped, and according to national and JR officials, the wheels are usually dragged to the ground when the vehicle slips sideways and derails. It means that no scratches have been found around some vehicles.

In addition, the driver told JR East that he felt a strong tremor like pushing up from below, and the car body floated up with a dawn. Rather, it means that it may have floated up and off the rails.

The Japan Transport Safety Board is investigating the cause.

As a measure against derailment of the Shinkansen, JR East is focusing on preventing the wheels from shifting significantly from the rails in the event of a lateral slip, but in this accident it is assumed that some vehicles will protrude to the opposite railroad side. Assuming that there is an outside deviation, we will verify that the countermeasures worked well.
