More than 360 million people – which corresponds to 5% of the world's population!

– suffer from a disabling hearing loss.

And whether they are deaf or hard of hearing, they all encounter the same difficulties when it comes to performing “simple” gestures such as waking up or using a tap.

Some of them have therefore decided to explain their painful daily life on the TikTok platform.

Sign language and hearing aids

A deaf American says, for example, that a man stopped her and then held her up with a revolver while she was talking in sign language with a friend.

"He thought we were making gang signs," she says, still scared.

Another says that she has great difficulty waking up in the morning because she cannot hear her alarm clock ringing, even though she has tried “the worst: fire alarm, police siren, military trumpet”.

Others explain how their lives have changed since wearing hearing aids like cochlear implants, which convert sounds into electrical signals.

Attentive to these testimonies, TikTok, their favorite network, offered deaf creators a platform aimed at “explaining how to be more inclusive of the hearing impaired”.
