Recently, 60,000 copies of rice breeding materials with "identity cards" have been sown in the rice dual-use CMS breeding base in Shidian County, Baoshan City, Yunnan Province.
In the experimental field, Yang Xihua, director of the Agricultural Comprehensive Service Center in Shuichang Township, Shidian County, is guiding farmers to spread rice breeding materials together with breeding experts from the Grain Crops Research Institute of Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
"Don't underestimate these grains of rice, they are the treasures of scientific researchers, and they all have their own 'identity cards'." Yang Xihua introduced that when these seeds grow into seedlings, they become dual-use nuclear sterility Line breeding material, that is, the female parent of dual-purpose GM rice.
From July to August every year, scientific researchers will pair the female parent with the male parent, and then select high-yield, high-quality, and disease-resistant excellent rice varieties from the successfully matched rice varieties as new varieties for large-scale research. Promote planting.
It is understood that Shidian, Yunnan is the base of rice breeding in summer in my country, and Hainan is the base for winter breeding. The combination of the two places shortens the conventional breeding time of 8-10 years to 4-5 years, which greatly accelerates the speed of rice breeding in my country. my country's food security has provided a guarantee.

At present, Shidian County has a 500-mu breeding base for dual-purpose CMS lines, with about 60,000 copies of breeding materials, and about 20,000 mu of parental expansion bases.
It is worth mentioning that the Shidian County Rice Breeding Base is the largest dual-purpose CMS breeding base in my country, providing more than 80% of the country's breeding materials.
