"The situation is far from over regarding the Covid-19 pandemic," said French doctor Didier Houssin, chairman of the WHO's Emergency Committee on Coronavirus.

"Circulation of the virus is still very active, mortality remains high and the virus is evolving in an unpredictable way", declared the latter, assuring that the Committee was unanimous on the fact that it was therefore not "the time to lower the guard ".

“Now is not the time for relaxation on this virus, no weakness in surveillance, testing and reporting, no laxity in public and social health measures and no resignation if acting on vaccination,” he added during a press briefing in Geneva on Wednesday.

"On the Covid-19, we have good news", admitted doctor Tedros, in his introductory remarks.

"Last week we recorded the lowest death toll from Covid-19 since the early days of the pandemic," he said, hastening to add that some countries were still experiencing spikes in infections this which puts pressure on their hospital system.
