According to a study published in the international journal

Policy & Internet

, 31% of adolescents consume pornography on sites not targeted by Arcom, the Regulatory Authority for Audiovisual and Digital Communication born of the merger between the CSA and Hadopi .

Eight in number, we find, among these sites not respecting the regulation of control of minors Pornhub, Pornhub, Xvideos or Xhamster.

"Because French teenagers see pornography on a wide range of media platforms, I don't think restricting under-18 access to just eight dedicated porn sites will have much effect," Neil said in a statement. Thurman, lead author of the study and a professor at the City, University of London and CMU Munich.

And to note that the obligation to verify age would have no other consequence than the postponement of consumers to other less restrictive sites.

1 hour 21 minutes per month

The study states that 51% of the 1,000 teenagers aged 15 to 17 surveyed have already seen pornography online.

9% of the panel indicated that they had used a VPN or a Tor browser, tools allowing to circumvent the location of the Internet user and therefore to circumvent the national legislation in force relating to pornography.

33% of respondents were aware of the existence of these technologies, but had never used them.

These data further help to contextualize adolescent pornography consumption.

She tells us that this would amount to 1 hour 21 minutes per month, all media combined: social networks, search engines or messaging apps.
