"Learn a craft and live a free life." This is a phrase that Wang Yaobin, who lives in the Funiu Mountains, often talks about, and it is also the attitude he has been adhering to for many years.

Wang Yaobin, a "post-80s" from Luanchuan County, Luoyang, Henan, is a carpenter who returned to his hometown to start a business.

Rather than saying that Wang Yaobin returned to his hometown to start a business, it is better to say that he returned to the countryside and lived a "Tao Yuanming-style" landscape and rural life.

Wang Yaobin built a wood workshop in the deep mountains and old forest, named "Yishan Wooden House", with the back of the mountain, the water in front, and the "thin ground three points" beside it.

It just fits with Tao Yuanming's famous saying of the ages: "The hut is in the human environment, without the noise of carriages and horses. Picking chrysanthemums under the east fence, you can see Nanshan leisurely."

He was also called the Luanchuan version of "Tao Yuanming" by some local netizens.

Recently, a reporter from Chinanews.com arrived after a tortuous mountain trail, and suddenly it became clear.

Wearing a fisherman's hat and an apron around his waist, Wang Yaobin told reporters the story of his creation of a wood workshop in a slow and calm manner.

It is hard to imagine that many years ago, Wang Yaobin also wore professional attire, shuttled through the "jungle" of reinforced concrete, and lived a nine-to-five urban life.

After a period of time, he walked out of the mountains and was tired of the city life at that time.

So, Wang Yaobin decided to go back to his hometown, chase the dream of the countryside, and find out what his original life looked like.

In 2016, the works of a carpenter in Jingyu County, Jilin Province and the words "Learn a craft, go to a free life" made him eliminate the doubts of "where to go and what to do", so he resigned and went north to study art.

This departure completely changed Wang Yaobin's life and met his current wife.

The two share a common mountain growing experience and a dream of chasing a rural life.

After the spring of 2017, they returned to Wang Yaobin's hometown together and started the "Dream Building Project".

Starting from brick by brick, building exhibition halls, building workbenches... Because of limited funds, most of the workshops are completed by themselves.

Wang Yaobin said, "The carpentry workshop spent a total of nearly 300,000 yuan by borrowing a part and crowdfunding a part."

From the original pure handmade wooden furniture to the current large and small wooden objects, Wang Yaobin relied on online orders to slowly pay off his debts, and his life gradually improved.

Wang Yaobin told reporters that the pure wood furniture he made, combined with the traditional tenon-and-mortise structure and modern creativity, is deeply loved by some young people today.

Today, carpentry is not only Wang Yaobin's means of making a living, but also his way of life.

This can be seen in the corners of Wang Yaobin's home, such as a wooden leisure rocking chair, a long desk, a self-made reflecting large-diameter telescope...

"I do carpentry more for fun, not just to receive orders and earn money." Wang Yaobin's working hours are not fixed every day. When he doesn't want to do carpentry, he will lie lazily on the wooden rocking chair and read a book. , thinking, and suddenly inspired, he took out pen and paper to draw ideas.

Building an astronomical telescope was the sudden inspiration of Wang Yaobin.

One summer night, he accidentally looked up and saw the sky full of stars, which brought back memories of lying on the roof of his bungalow and watching the stars when he was a child.

Wang Yaobin said: "The children in the village, like me, have never used an astronomical telescope to see the vast starry sky."

Studying the principles of astronomical telescopes, purchasing necessary optical components, hand polishing the lens barrel, and repeated debugging... With an idea, Wang Yaobin began to put it into action. After two months, the telescope was built, and it also achieved the ideal viewing effect.

Wang Yaobin immediately transported the built astronomical telescope to the village primary school.

That night, with surprise and excitement, more than 200 teachers and students from the village primary school saw the beautiful starry sky through the "big cannon" telescope.

Nowadays, Wang Yaobin's carpentry workshop is well-known, and many enthusiasts have come to learn from Wang Yaobin, or experience the woodworking life.

Wang Yaobin told reporters that especially during the holidays, many urbanites bring their children to the wood workshop to experience life. "I often bring them up the mountain to pick up waste wood, and then come back and polish the waste wood into what they like."

On the eve of this year's Spring Festival, Luanchuan County recruited "township innovation operators" across the country, attracting aspiring talents to come here as "lucid waters and lush mountains partners".

Wang Yaobin signed up as soon as possible, and combined the high-quality resources in the village to make a detailed "township innovation plan". He wanted to use this to attract more young people to return to their hometown to start a business and "look up to the stars" with him.
