Eight people including Qi were sentenced to corresponding penalties for the crime of producing and selling poisonous and harmful food.

These two weight loss products are widely sold to beauty stores all over Jiangsu, and then the beauty stores sell them to customers.
However, the sales of such delicately packaged products are very "secret".
When Qi and his wife sold to beauty shop owners, they specifically instructed them to "do not display on the showcase, but put it in a hidden place so that they cannot be found by the relevant departments."
It is understood that most of the people who buy this weight loss product are "beauty lovers" who need to lose weight. There are also some people who are troubled by constipation, and some customers even buy it for their children at home.
However, the detoxification and beauty tablets sold by Qi and his wife are not original, but privately filled.
An investigation by the Nantong police found that since 2014, Qi and his wife had purchased bulk tablets and packaging boxes, packaging bottles, labels, and anti-counterfeiting codes from Fang Qiang (pseudonym), and arranged for employees to fill them in the rented warehouse. , labeling, plastic sealing, and packaging into two brands of detoxification and beauty products, "Guoyuankang" and "Xianxiuyan".
Bulk tablets have been transformed into "brand" products, and are sold through beauty product exhibitions, WeChat Moments and other channels, claiming to have the effects of laxative, detoxification and beauty, weight loss and slimming.
According to reports, Fang Qiang's bulk tablets were ordered from a person surnamed Gu.
Gu has been selling cosmetics and slimming tablets for many years.
In December 2020, after learning about Fang Qiang's ordering needs, Gu ordered 2.6 million weight-loss tablets from his home Zhou.
Zhou found Wang and reached a production agreement with him for 2.6 million bulk tablets. Wang then handed over the 2.6 million bulk tablets to Xu for production.
In his own pet feed processing workshop, Xu mixed 300 kilograms of "phenolphthalein" raw materials, starch, glucose, flavor and other auxiliary materials provided by Zhou with water, and pressed them with a mold to produce the 2.6 million bulk tablets. Wooden barrels shipped.
After testing, the content of phenolphthalein in the tablet is 60.1g/kg to 109g/kg.
Phenolphthalein is a stimulant laxative, which can damage the enteric nervous system when used for a long time.
According to the prosecutor handling the case, in this case, Qi ordered 2.6 million bulk weight loss tablets from Gu through Fang Qiang at a price of 0.32 yuan per tablet, and Gu ordered the weight loss tablets from Zhou at a price of 0.15 yuan per tablet. , Zhou Mou reached a bulk tablet production agreement with Wang Mou at a price of 0.03 yuan/tablet, and Wang Mou delivered the 2.6 million bulk tablets to Xu Mou for production at a price of 0.025 yuan/tablet.
After Qi received the tablets, he packaged them by filling and labeling them by himself, and sold them to offline beauty stores at prices ranging from 40-80 yuan/box (30 tablets). Prices ranging from RMB/box (30 capsules) are sold to consumers.
From the initial production cost of 0.025 yuan per capsule, to the final consumer purchase price of 198 yuan per bottle (30 capsules), the profit margin is as high as 264 times.
On January 6 this year, the Rudong County People's Procuratorate brought a public prosecution to the court for the above-mentioned 8 persons suspected of producing and selling poisonous and harmful food.
The above 8 people were sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment ranging from 1 to 10 years for the above-mentioned crimes, and fined ranging from 10,000 to 900,000 yuan, and were prohibited from engaging in food, The production, sales and related activities of medicines fully reflect the efforts of the whole chain to crack down on food safety crimes.
According to the prosecutor handling the case, the actions of Qi and his wife not only constituted the crime of producing and selling poisonous and harmful food, but also violated the legitimate rights and interests and health of unspecified consumers, and harmed the social and public interests. Their civil compensation liability should be investigated according to law.
In order to effectively crack down on illegal acts, the Rudong County People's Procuratorate, on the basis of filing a criminal lawsuit, also filed a criminal incidental civil public interest lawsuit against Qi and his wife, asking them to publicly apologize on the provincial media, issue a consumer warning, and pay the sales price. 3 times the compensation, which is supported by the court ruling.
