50U is a book that celebrates the unique human journey of the UAE

The Minister of Culture and Youth, Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi, attended the official launch of the book "50U" in Alserkal Avenue in Dubai, which comes in honor of the path of the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, may God have mercy on him, and to celebrate the renaissance and development of the UAE over the past decades, where it celebrates the fiftieth year through Depicting the unique human journey of the first fifty years of the history of the UAE.

The book tells the story of the seven Emirates through fifty scenes that tell the stories of characters, plants and places in which the memory abounds. It is the result of the efforts of Emirati businessman Yasser Mohammed bin Khedia, in cooperation with his two daughters Khawla and Rawda, photographic designer and Dutch book producer Irma Bom.

The book details life in the Emirates closely, and explores its history through realistic accounts of the memories, hopes and aspirations of its residents and visitors.

This book is the result of numerous interviews conducted with a number of personalities, including an astronaut, a race car driver, a tailor, a fisherman, a former minister and others.

The Dutch-based Archis publishing team and Emirati editors Ahmed and Rashid Bin Shabib selected people from diverse backgrounds to recount their experiences of living and settling in the region.

Yasser Mohammed bin Khedia said, “It was just an idea between family and friends in Dubai and Amsterdam that inspired us to launch this collection of stories and we hope that the book will be a tribute to our past, a documentation of our present, and an important element of cultural exchange in the future.

In our work that transcended geographical borders, we decided to present a project that reflects the principles of tolerance and population diversity in the Emirates, and thus we launched this book with its design and content that matches today’s reality, and we are very pleased to share this book with everyone and everywhere.”

Hala Badri, Director General of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, said, "50U is an important addition to the books that talk about the history and development of the United Arab Emirates. The book combines the collective experience of citizens and residents, and creatively summarizes the essence of this young and vibrant country."

"The book honestly recounts the true essence of the United Arab Emirates, with all its efforts to grow with distinction and uniqueness, despite its young age as a country," said Rene de Graaf, partner at Uma's office.
