Experts remind: pay attention to spring allergy problems

Xinhua News Agency reporters Li Heng and Tian Xiaohang

Spring is the season of high incidence of allergic diseases in the population.

All kinds of airborne pollen with diameters of tens of microns and inaccessible to the naked eye are flooded in the air, and many people will experience symptoms such as watery eyes, sneezing, runny nose, coughing and suffocation, and itchy skin.

Experts said that after helping the patient find the causative allergen, the doctor instructs the patient to start regular use of anti-allergic drugs two weeks in advance according to the monitored pollen dispersal time period. Stopping the drug after two weeks can help most patients cope with the allergy season smoothly.

"The human immune system includes the humoral immune system and the cellular immune system, which can help us identify and remove foreign invading pathogens, cancer cells in the body, and normal cells that have aged and died." Guan Kai, assistant director and deputy chief physician of the Department of Allergy, Peking Union Medical College Hospital Introduction, in the face of foreign invaders, the normal immune system will only attack and destroy microorganisms and pathogens that threaten human health; if the immune system has "cognitive confusion" or even "recognizes friends as enemies", it will start to over-attack Pollen, food, etc. that enter the body but are not threatening, in this process, the body will cause immune inflammation due to "disaster in pond fish", which also causes "allergic reaction".

"Every allergy season, there are a lot of allergens in the living environment that can coexist with normal people, but are regarded as enemies by people with allergies, such as pollen." Guan Kai said that allergies are related to people's health.

Allergies originate from immune disorders, which does not mean "lack of immunity", nor "low immunity". It is necessary to scientifically and correctly understand allergic diseases.

Allergic rhinitis is one of the most common types of allergic diseases.

Guan Kai introduced that nasal congestion is the first of the four symptoms of allergic rhinitis.

Nasal congestion can cause hypoxia, endanger people's physical and mental development, and lead to sleep apnea syndrome.

Regarding the hazards of allergic rhinitis, Guan Kai said that most allergic rhinitis will be combined with conjunctivitis, which affects vision, and may also be combined with otitis media, resulting in hearing loss, and even 30% to 40% of patients will develop fatal asthma.

If allergic rhinitis is not properly treated for a long time, especially in the adolescent stage, it may affect the development of the human maxillofacial area, causing buck teeth, "demented face" and other hazards.

Experts say it is not advisable to wait passively for allergic rhinitis to heal itself.

It is necessary to strengthen the study of popular science knowledge, follow the diagnosis and treatment plans of regular hospitals and professional doctors, and control "minor problems" in the budding stage.
