(Fighting against New Coronary Pneumonia) Carrie Lam: Rapid Antigen Tests for the People in Hong Kong Are Effective

China News Service, Hong Kong, April 9 (Reporter Zhang Xiaoxi) The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, said on the 9th that the three-day rapid antigen testing for the whole population in Hong Kong since the 8th has been effective, and called on the public to continue to support.

Carrie Lam made the above remarks at the anti-epidemic press conference held at the SAR Government Headquarters on the same day.

She pointed out that if the epidemic does not rebound and continues to show a downward trend, the SAR government will relax most of the social distancing measures in three phases within three months, and schools can also gradually resume face-to-face classes after the Easter holiday.

Carrie Lam said that since the 8th, the rapid antigen test encouraged by the public has been effective, and it is estimated that the number of positive nucleic acid tests will continue to decline.

Citizens participated in a large-scale rapid antigen test together, and the increase in positive cases was not large, indicating that there are not many hidden transmission chains in the Hong Kong community, which is good news.

She also said that for positive patients, whether it is to provide home support or arrange for them to be admitted to community isolation facilities, it is within the scope of the SAR government to handle.

In addition, Carrie Lam also spoke at the press conference about the SAR government's strong support for technological innovation and the extensive use of technology to fight the epidemic, including the application of new coronavirus sewage monitoring devices.

She pointed out that the current SAR government has invested more than HK$130 billion in technological innovation and development.

Xue Yongheng, Secretary of the Innovation and Technology Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, mentioned at the same press conference that in the "2022 Geneva International Invention Exhibition", Hong Kong representatives won 204 awards, a record high, and some of the award-winning projects were related to the fight against the epidemic. This technology has been widely used in Hong Kong, including the Gold Award-winning sewage monitoring project for COVID-19, with more than 10,000 samples collected for analysis so far.

Xue Yongheng also said that as long as all sectors of society work together and stick to the end, I believe that Hong Kong will surely overcome challenges, stabilize the epidemic, and get out of the "epidemic" situation as soon as possible.
