• The wavy hairstyle for spring events: three styles that work

  • What is the 60/180 rule of hair washing or how to make shampoo work better

  • The cuts and hairstyles that we will wear this spring

A few days ago,

Malú

visited

'La Resistencia'.

Between joke and joke, he proposed a game to the presenter,

David Broncano:

he planted a wig on him and made him stand in front of a fan so that he could

move his -false- hair

in his air.

Why?

He confessed that it was his particular way of

giving himself power

and going on stage in each and every one of his performances to come up.

Is it that perhaps

long hair gives us more power

than short hair?

If we look at Malú, yes, and

María Roberts corroborates this,

an expert hairdresser in color and also

in extensions,

who does not hesitate to put them on her own hair when she needs a change or to feel, as she says,

"empowered".

We are going

to talk about extensions

for all this and because they are

the order of the day.

Despite the fact that the trends of 2022 have their greatest exponents in

midi hair

of all kinds (we are talking about bobs, long bobs, weathered shags and

straight bobs)

, or perhaps precisely because of it, now we will see, these hairpieces insist on being seen without fear,

prejudice or shame.

Extensions: from hiding to showing them off

While years ago the extensions were also worn

as something hidden,

wanting rather to draw XXL hair without knowing the reality, today its use is evident because with them

the 'celebrities' go from short hair to long hair

from one day to the next.

The recent Malaga Film Festival has been proof of this: from one day to the next, María Pedraza has gone from

a buzz

cut to

a fancy mane

(courtesy of the hairdresser Marina Roberts) and

Ana Fernández

has transformed into a contemporary siren to the

'One, two, three... splash!'

without any kind of consideration (thanks to the hands of hairdresser

Gabriel Llano).

Extensions and hairpieces also use

Dua Lipa

or

J. Lo, this phenomenon is not just a matter of national 'celebrities'... And it seems that everything has its reason.

Juana Acosta, who is usually styled by Gabriel Llano, with a ponytail of extensions.

Why do you like extensions?

The reason that the extensions

are the order of the day

and in more hair than we would have imagined, in addition to being openly shown, is because

"we like change

and it is the easiest way to achieve it," says María. Roberts, an expert in them since 2015, when she opened her first salon, Studio 25, in Madrid.

"And I speak to you from my own example, thanks to them

I can do what I want with my hair,"

she says.

According to the expert, in addition, with hair there has been a paradigm shift in recent years.

"Increasingly we think of

hair as a complement

and just as we change

bags or shoes

on a daily basis, we want it to be like that with

the hairstyle and the mane."

These statements confirm not only the visibility of these hairpieces, but also their increasingly established presence in Spain.

María Roberts tells that, when she got into this 16 years ago, in our country there were hardly any extensions.

And yet now, confirms Gabriel Llano, with a salon in Madrid, "they get along a lot because it's a perfect alternative for

a one-time change of look:

they naturally allow

more hair or another type of texture,

since if you work them well with natural hair, you melt it so that the whole looks real and they look

very natural".

What extensions are used for: It's not just the length that matters

There are up to

three powerful reasons

to abandon yourself to the pleasure of some good extensions.

Gabriel Llano points out that, of course, to

lengthen the hair,

especially today when

medium hair

is worn (what happens if one day, or a month, we want to have longer hair

without having to wait for it to grow?).

But there are two other even stronger reasons:

to have more volume

and even to

give points of light.

In fact, María Roberts estimates that

40% of the clients

who come to her salon get extensions for this reason: "Compared to a haircut, they have the advantage that

the change is not permanent,

they give body where it is needed - ideal for

long hair with an age

that is having finer hair- or replace

highlights

that spoil the hair".

Because with good extensions of a different tone you can give points of light to the face as highlights without having to go through dye.

A perfect solution to

avoid damaging the hair,

especially when it comes to bleaching or

fancy dyes

(pink, blue, green), which damage the hair fiber so much.

Do extensions damage hair?

It's the million dollar question.

And both experts are emphatic: if they are done well, under the advice of an experienced professional,

he is not unanimous.

In addition, extensions are of different types.

Those that are only used for

a specific moment,

are placed

with tweezers or a clip,

or those that are applied

as a headband,

with thread, with which in 5 minutes you start to have a lot of hair...

If we talk about

the long-lasting ones,

Gabriel Llano uses

keratin ones in his salon,

and María Roberts chooses between different techniques (the adhesive ones among them), except, he points out,

the braided ones.

Another ponytail with extensions, that of Marta Hazas.

And where does the crux of the matter lie so that the extensions do not damage the hair?

As the main thing is that the hair follicle is not damaged, it is essential that

the weight of the extensions never exceed what it can support,

so you always have to measure how many and how they are placed, explains Roberts.

Good extensions, successful and natural, are not achieved simply by putting them on: "In addition to placing them well, the secret of their success will be that they adapt to the hair with

a cut, color and texture

that the professional must assess in each specific case" .

Roberts prefers that the extensions

be made of natural hair and Remy:

in them, it is known how and where the cuticle is in such a way that it is directed in the same direction as the real hair,

the key to an artificial zero result.

Nor should we forget the importance of maintenance in the salon for a perfect and harmless result.

Every month and a half or two months,

as the hair grows, you have to

change the position of the extensions

so that the follicle is not damaged by the weight.

How to care for extensions at home

Perhaps this is the most controversial point of the extensions, because their care does require some extra effort.

We must not forget, as Gabriel Llano points out, that even if they are not ours,

they are still hair,

so they must be

hydrated, untangled and dried well.

Nutrition is key.

"Using

a good moisturizing mask

is basic," says Llano.

Not to mention that

the shampoos

that are used also have to be nutritious.

It is also essential to

untangle,

so that the point of union between extensions and natural hair does not get entangled.

Better, yes, with

a soft brush

that

does not have balls

on the bristles, as María Roberts points out.

And can

irons and dryers be used?

Not only can it be, but in some cases it is due, perhaps especially in the straightest hair, because as it is not our hair, the extensions may differ a little in texture, and combing and styling them ensures

that they are not noticed

within the set. whole hair.

Just

one last warning

about Roberts' extensions:

"They're addictive,

they're so comfortable, and even though when it comes to maintaining them it does take longer to dry your hair, you have a 'hairy' you don't want to part with..." .
