Tunisian artist raises controversy with a strange suggestion about Ramadan

A Tunisian artist sparked widespread controversy on social media after his proposal to install the month of Ramadan in December every year, considering that fasting in the summer months is stressful.

This came during an interview with Tunisian actor Mohamed Al-Siyari, on a program broadcast on one of the local radio stations.

Al-Sayyari said that "the month of Ramadan is supposed to be always during the winter, so that all people can fast without any excuses and with ease, not like torment in the summer heat."

Social media activists published a video clip showing Al-Sayari on the local "Shams FM" radio, calling for the month of Ramadan to be fixed in December.

Activists denounced the artist's statement, Muhammad Al-Siyari, directing harsh criticism to him.

One of the activists said, "The Tunisian artist does not know that it is God's justice that Ramadan is based on the lunar calendar, because when it is summer in the northern hemisphere, it is winter in the southern hemisphere, and so everyone fasts once in the summer and once in the winter, and the rest of the seasons and so on."

And he continued: “But if Ramadan is fixed on the solar calendar, then one of the hemispheres will always fast in summer, and from the other half always in winter, and this is not fair.”
