They thought it was a potato... A bomb was found inside a chip factory in New Zealand

A New Zealand chip factory called up a bomb disposal squad after it emerged that one of the potatoes flowing through the factory's production line was in fact a "grenade".

According to the East Tamaki Mister Chips factory, the bomb was sent to him among potatoes that had been plucked from a farm in the Waikato region.

The factory indicated that one of the workers, Richard Turokura, succeeded in detecting the grenade and immediately informed his manager, so that the latter quickly contacted the bomb disposal experts.

When the experts arrived, they examined the bomb to find that it was inert, and they confirmed that it was a "Mills", a British-made bomb used extensively in the First and Second World Wars.

This grenade is the first weapon discovered at the 30-year-old factory, said Roland Spittels, director of the East Tamaki Mister Chips.

Spittels indicated that he photographed the bomb and placed its picture in various parts of the factory so that all workers could spot any similar bomb among the potatoes.
