A professor at a university in Mariupol, eastern Ukraine, where fierce fighting continues, tells a collaborator at a university in Muroran, Hokkaido, with a video message about the tragic situation in the area, saying, "It is the greatest disaster in science and humanity." I appealed for support.

Professor Vesley Eflemenko of Priazovsky National Institute of Technology in Mariupol continues to collaborate with Professor Kazumichi Shimizu of Muroran Institute of Technology, which has an academic exchange agreement.

As Mariupol's besieged by Russian troops and was severely attacked, Professor Eflemenko, who was evacuating to another town, sent Professor Shimizu a video message in English in 3 minutes and 50 seconds on the 6th.

In it, the professor testified that a Russian missile hit the university building, "Mariupol can no longer study science. There are no classes or students. There are only ruin and civilian bodies on the street. We lost our homes, lost our jobs, and became refugees. This is the greatest scientific and humanitarian disaster in Europe since World War II. "

He then says, "I want to appeal to all who can speak. Please support Ukraine. Call on your government for humane and financial support."

According to Professor Eflemenco, the safety of two female researchers who were students of the professor and who once studied abroad at Muroran Institute of Technology is unknown.

Professor Shimizu, who received the message, said, "I think he is very shocked because he likes research. I can only worry, but I want peace negotiations to proceed as soon as possible."
